EUSEW16 session - ENERGY EFFICIENCY: A BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY FOR SMES
The SET project was featured at an event organised at the European Commission in the framework of the European Sustainable Energy Week. Massimo Marchi, MARCHI & FILDI S.p.A., Italy, shared his testimonial representing the company which implemented the SET tools and actually invested in energy efficient measures.
The objective of this event was to promote energy efficiency as an opportunity for SMEs to improve their competiveness by saving energy, as well as a new business model through the provision of energy services. This was illustrated by projects supported by the Intelligent Energy Europe and H2020 programmes, paving the way for future initiatives to come forward.
The session was chaired by Vincent Berrutto, Head of Unit 'H2020 Energy' in EASME, and opened by Paul Hodson, Head of Unit 'Energy Efficiency' in the European Commission DG Energy, who launched the debate with interesting comments regarding encouraging SMEs to implement energy efficient measures.
The floor was then given to businesses (SMEs, including energy service companies) and other value chain actors (Chambers of Commerce and Industry, networks) who shared their experience and provided examples of energy efficiency actions in the field supported by the EU. The intervention of Mr. Marchi raised much interest and many questions from the audience. In his presentation Mr. Marchi pointed out a concrete company experience in decreasing energy consumption and thus raising competitiveness.
The Commission officials welcomed the SET results and the efforts taken by all SET partners to promote the SET self-assessment tools for companies to understand and exploit energy efficiency.
