Positive start for the European textile industry in 2017
The EU textile industry made a steady start to 2017, boosted by the economic panorama which is turning brighter.
According to the latest short-term indicators, the EU T&C industry gained some speed during the first quarter of 2017, with mixed results throughout the production chain. The upstream sector performed better than the clothing sector for which the situation remained more challenging. Positive news came also from the external sector, as T&C exports expanded at a solid pace in the first three months of the year.

ART-CHERIE project will define the items of the Prato Textile Museum collections
ART-CHERIE is a way to value the fashion cultural European heritage for inspiring the (young) fashion designers.
The main objectives of the ART-CHERIE project are to [a] contribute to the protection and exploitation of fashion’s Cultural Heritage and [b] to organise and structure it in vocational training courses for the improvement of EU fashion designers working in textile and clothing (T&C) Industries, and/or young fashion designers.

On 9 June, a conference on “Digitisation in fashion” was organised by the EU Watify campaign, in Bologna (Italy). General Assembly on Circular Economy in textile & apparel manufacturing
On Thursday 8 June 2017, about 100 delegates attended the EURATEX General Assembly conference on Circular Economy in textile & apparel manufacturing. Four committed companies and Mr Grzegorz Radziejewski from the cabinet of the Commission Vice President Katainen discussed the opportunities, but also the challenges for the sector. Drawing the conclusions, EURATEX called for collaboration to prosper and showcase art in the Circular Economy.
