BOOSTING REGIONAL TEXTILE INNOVATION WITH REGIOTEX

Europe’s textile and clothing sector will boost competitiveness through the EU regional Smart Specialisation Strategies and a better connection of regional innovation clusters.

EU TRADE IN TEXTILE & CLOTHING GOODS WENT UP IN 2015

According to CITH, the Textile and Clothing Information Centre, the EU textile and clothing exporters succeeded in gaining further market shares in Third countries (+3.6%). On the imports side, the EU imports picked up by +9.6% in value terms, due to sharp increases from Asian countries. On the contrary, imports from the Mediterranean area (Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia) achieved a modest growth or even decreased over the period. More digitally connected companies with eBIZ

In May 2015, the European Commission launched the Digital Market Strategy which includes digitalising European industry, standards and interoperability. European top officials recognise the importance of digital data exchange enabling effective communication or traceability along the supply chain, from raw material to point of sale. eBIZ is the European initiative for the use and greater interoperability of digital communication in the fashion supply chain; some 400 companies have already gained from it.
