Commissioner Bieńkowska Heads the First Forum on Fashion & High-End Industries

Participating in the high-level Forum on the fashion and high-end industries led by the Commissioner Bieńkowska, EURATEX underlined the importance of support to SMEs’ internationalisation and access to innovation funding. 


In December 2013, an Action Plan for fashion and high-end industries was adopted to set out concrete actions to strengthen the competiveness of the European fashion and high-end industries. On 4-7 May 2015, EURATEX joined the Techtextil/ Texprocess fair in Frankfurt to present its major initiatives, meet companies and learn about the latest developments. The sustainable use of resources is among EURATEX’ key priorities for the years to come, therefore special focus was given to the Energy Made-to-Measure (EM2M) campaign.

On April 29, at the press conference hosted by Techtextil and Texprocess, Euratex President Serge Piolat presented an overview of the latest developments in the European textile and clothing sector with a special focus on technical textiles.  


In 2014, 173.000 EU textile and apparel companies reached a turnover of about €165 billion and generated a value added of €44 billion employing more than 1.6 million workers. Swiss innovations as solutions to global challenges

At its annual media conference held today at Swisslastic AG in Wald (ZH), Swiss Textiles reported on the progress of business in 2014. Although added value had fallen slightly overall the branch still achieved export growth of 4.6% for textiles. The trend for the current year remains uncertain. The abolition of the exchange rate peg against the euro brought a massive deterioration of international competitiveness in a matter of minutes. Textile, woodworking and furniture industries: the sky is clearing up, but one swallow doesn’t make a summer

As a result of the annual General Assembly on Thursday 23 April in Ghent, Fedustria, the Belgian association for companies of the textile, woodworking and furniture industries, takes stock of the past year, with indications for 2015 and policy recommendations.

In 2014 sales in the textile industry rose by 4.4 %, sales in the furniture industry rose by 4.2 % and those in the wood industry rose by 2.1 %. Employment remained relatively steady, with only a slight fall. At the end of 2014 the sky cleared up, with a cheaper Euro and a fall in oil prices at zero inflation.
