Launch of the ART CHERIE project to exploit the fashion Cultural Heritage for the improvement of EU fashion designers

On December 15th, 2016, five project partners will be hosted by EURATEX in Brussels, Belgium, to launch the newly ERASMUS+ KA2 project ART CHERIE (Achieving and Retrieving Creativity through European Fashion Cultural Heritage Inspiration).

The project, coordinated by EURATEX, addresses the issue of apprenticeships delivery in the fashion sector dominated by SME’s and micro enterprises. EURATEX, the European Apparel and Textile Confederation, held its 5th Convention on 25 November in Lyon in conjunction with the “Marché des Soies”. Launch of the TEXAPP project to strengthen the supply of apprenticeships in the fashion sector

On December 5th 2016, the eight project partners will be hosted by TexClubTec in its premises in Milan, Italy, to launch the newly ERASMUS+ KA3 project TEXAPP (Integrated strategy Initiative for Strengthening the supply of APPrenticeships in TEXtile sector).

European and Japanese textiles industries hand in hand for the conclusion of the EU-JAPAN FTA

The Textile & Clothing (T&C) industry is a growing industry on worldwide basis. Operating in a very competitive environment, the EU and Japan are still taking leading roles in developing high technology and quality of fibres and fabrics as well as in creating high value added apparels and fashion.

China's share in EU imports declined in 2015 to the benefit of South Asian countries

Erosion of China’s share in EU imports, especially in lower-end products

The leading position of China has continued to be eroded by the increasingly vigorous entry of the other production zones. Whereas in 2010, its market share of EU textiles and clothing imports stood at 40.8%, this had fallen to 35% by 2015. The tendency for China seemed to be more and more textile exports whose production was facilitated by more sophisticated and productive machinery, at the expense of garments which are much more labour intensive.

In 2015, the best EU exporters’ performances were achieved in the market of technical textiles and womenswear 

Exports of man-made fibres outside of the EU have regained their rate of growth these past years and rose by +4.5% in value during 2015. There were some changes in the ranking of the EU-28’s main customers, although the USA remained the EU leading customer. Despite the downward trend in the production volume of thread and yarn, in 2015, the volume of exports outside the EU was unchanged. Klaus Huneke Nominated as the Next EURATEX President

On 9 June 2016, EURATEX General Assembly nominated a new President – Klaus Huneke will take the political lead of the confederation in January 2017 for a two years’ term.
