EU T&C evolution during the 3rd quarter 2017

Third quarter 2017: Further improvement in the textile industry

and brighter managers' expectations in the clothing sector

The EU textile industry evolution improved further in the 3rd quarter 2017, boosted by the EU economic climate recovery and enhanced consumption, while production in the clothing sector continued to deteriorate. The labour market conditions worsened  despite still positive development in the textile industry. Positive news came from the boom of T&C retail sales and from the external sector, as T&C exports expanded at a solid pace since the beginning of the year.

The consumer confidence reflected households' more optimistic expectations while managers’ confidence indicator(*) continued to rise in the clothing industry with positive assessments of production expectations, current stock of finished products and of current level of order books. By contrast, their views in the textile industry has pointed down. Furthermore, employment expectations in the T&C industry deteriorated while exports expectations have trended upwards.
