EU T&C evolution during the 2nd quarter 2017

2nd quarter 2017: Satisfactory development in the textile industry

T&C industry confidence continues to rise in September

The EU textile industry pursue its positive start during the 2nd quarter 2017, boosted by the economic climate recovery and improved consumption, while production in the clothing sector continued to deteriorate. The labour market conditions worsened  despite still positive development in the textile industry. Positive news came from the surge of T&C retail sales and from the external sector, as T&C exports expanded at a solid pace since the beginning of the year.

The Commission latest survey on the T&C industry (*), revealed that managers’ confidence indicator continued the upward trend prevailing since autumn last year with positive assessments of production expectations and of current level of order books. By contrast, their views on the stocks of textile products has pointed down. Furthermore, employment and exports expectations in the T&C industry have trended upwards.
