The European Best Available Techniques reference documents (BREFs) provide a description of industrial processes, their respective operating conditions and emission rates. The European Union Member States refer to BREF to authorize and monitor industrial manufacturing and the related emission in the environment.

The Emissions Trading System (ETS) is a cornerstone of the EU’s policy to combat climate change and is a key tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. EURATEX works for correct ETS implementation in finishing activities. Energy efficiency is of critical importance for the textile and clothing industry and to reduce CO2 emissions.

The Energy Made-to-Measure campaign has helped three hundred companies to pursue energy efficiency in textile and clothing productions by bringing together resources and projects’ results.

What it is? 

Energy Made-to-Measure is an information campaign launched in 2016 to empower over 300 companies, notably SMEs, to become more energy efficient. It collects and brings resources and information to companies, enabling them to take action.

Tools for companies

While the campaign funding has been discontinued, the projects’ tools are available for companies in 8 European languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Lithuanian, Portuguese, Romanian, including:

  • information on legal aspects of energy efficiency
  • overview of financial incentives for energy efficiency
  • self-assessment software tools

 Who has been involved?

Energy Made-to-Measure is initiated by EURATEX  in collaboration with ENEA and other organisations across Europe, notably partners of three European collaborative projects SESEC (promoting energy efficiency in the clothing industry), ARTISAN and SET (promoting energy efficiency in textile manufacturing).

Collaborations have been launched with both the German textile Machinery Association’s (VDMA) Blue Competence initiative and the Sustainable Technologies project of the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT).

In 2014, more than 20 public events took place in 8 countries to make some 500 professionals meet and discuss opportunities to spare energy and cut costs for a more efficient, sustainable manufacturing.
