18 November 2025 – EURATEX supported the “Textiles at the Frontline” roundtable organised by the Textiles and Fashion Friendship Group of the European Parliament and hosted by MEPs Dario Nardella and Paulo Cunha.
The discussion highlighted the essential contribution of Europe’s textile industry to a resilient and secure defence supply chain. Beyond protective clothing and uniforms, technical textiles are used in a wide range of strategic applications, including camouflage systems, drones and other defence equipment.
The exchange brought together textile companies, Members of the European Parliament and representatives of the European Commission, including DG DEFIS and DG GROW. Discussions focused in particular on how public procurement can better support European industrial capacity and strengthen the availability of critical textile products manufactured in Europe.
The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the risks of excessive dependence on external suppliers for essential medical and protective equipment. Building resilient European supply chains is therefore increasingly important not only for economic competitiveness, but also for Europe’s security and strategic autonomy.
EURATEX continues to advocate for procurement rules that recognise the strategic importance of European manufacturing and create stronger demand for European industrial production.
