Brussels, 25 June 2025 – EURATEX joined today the final launch event of the Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules for Apparel and Footwear, following a 5-year collaboration with industry, NGOs and other stakeholders.
Reflecting on the role of the methodology and its upcoming revision, EURATEX Director General Dirk Vantyghem highlighted the need to place sustainability targets in a broader competitiveness perspective and keep working on the methodology being a tool supporting sustainability and transparency as core values of the European textile industry.
‘It is urgent to create a level of confidence with companies and to have a solid methodology so that investments in sustainability are rewarded and consumers have access to better information.’
Dirk also noted important aspects such as the need for a revamped governance framework and EU-level harmonization.
EURATEX looks forward to the next steps of the PEFCR revision and implementation, based on continued collaboration with the textile ecosystem and other relevant stakeholders.
