The expected revision aims to improve and simplify the current REACH Regulation through reforming existing processes, such as authorisations and restrictions. It also revises substance evaluation, enforcement provisions and makes it easier to communicate in the supply chains. The REACH revision is one of the key files under the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability and delivering on Green Deal goals. The proposal will be presented to the European Parliament and the Council for discussions during the next mandate of the European Commission.
EURATEX Position
• REACH needs to have an effective market surveillance mechanism to prevent the import of unsafe goods and ensure a level playing field between EU and non-EU manufacturers
• The revision has to avoid increased costs, legal uncertainty, putting European companies in competitive disadvantage and hindering innovation and research
• Regulatory decisions must continue to be made on the basis of scientific risk assessments that consider the safe use of substances and implementation.
